 Two common types of Columbia River canoes:
- The left side drawing is 30 - 35 ft, long and can carry up
to a dozen persons.
- The right side drawing is the largest type, used in
tidewater area.
November 4, 1805: " we proceeded on and met an large & a
small canoe from below with 12 men the large canoe was ornimented
with Images carved in wood."
November 11, 1805: " those Indians are certainly the
best Canoe navigaters I ever saw."
