Resting, repairing, and reaping the benefits of fishing,
the Corps pitched their tents and anticipated a council with the Otoe Tribe.

Interpreter George Drouillard and Private Pierre Cruzatte,
both descendants of American Indian mothers,
searched for the Otoe Tribe only to find the village empty.

However, their pursuit was not in vain,
on July 28 the Corps encountered a Missouri Native
who informed them he was bison hunting with the Otoes.

An agreed upon location was set for the "first" native American council (Council Bluff)
at present day Fort Calhoun/Fort Atkinson, Nebraska.
