September 8, 1806 - (Camped at Camp White Catfish, where the party had stayed July 22 - 27, 1804)

"all being anxious to get to the River Platte to day they ply'd their orers very well, and we arrived at our old encampment at White Catfish Camp." 

September 9, 1806 - (Camped northeast of Peru, Nebraska, in either Nemaha County, Nebraska, or Atchison County, Missouri)

"our party appears extreamly anxious to get on, and every day appears produce new anxieties in them to get to their Country and friends.  My worthy friend Cap Lewis has entirely recovered his wounds* are heeled up and he can walk and even run nearly as well as he ever could."

wounds*- Lewis was accidentally shot on August 11, 1806

September 10, 1806

"had a pleasant morning, embarked early and went on very well.  at 4 o'clock pm we met a periogue with four men*, going to trade with the Loups or Wolf Indians who live up the river Platte.  we remained with these men about an hour got some whiskey from them and then continued our voyage.  In a short time we met another perigoue and seven men** going to trade with the Mahas who live on the Missouri.  we staid some time with these men and proceeded on..."

periogue with four men*- In this pirogue were Alexander Lafass and three Frenchmen from St. Louis, headed toward the Platte River to trade with the Wolf Indians.  Clark learned from them that Zebulon Pike and General James D. Wilkinson had set out up the Arkansas River on an expedition to the West.

perigoue and seven men**- In this large pirogue were seven men headed by Mr. LaCroix.  They had come up from St. Louis to trade with Omaha Indians.
