Field Notes

>>Private George Shannon was reunited with the Corps >

"Old Dorian" stayed the winter with the Yanktons,
for the purpose of conducting a delegation of Chiefs
to Washington the following Spring.
Pushing upstream the Corps were approaching Teton territory...
however, their minds were preoccupied with a little
creature
(prairie dog) that barked at them
and teased them with its ability to scurry into a hole and disappear.
After  successfully capturing the animal,
 the Corps were reunited with
George Shannon,
who had been lost in the wilderness for 14 days.
